Frequently Asked Questions

For the term ‘Narcissist’, is the dictionary definition wrong?

Yes. For nearly 100 years, the definition refers to the self-loving image of a sterotypical narcissist, which is both untrue, and heavily misleading.
At RespectFor.Me, we want to help chagne that definition so that is actually reflects the true meaning – someone who uses coercive control to force their victims into making progressively worse situations through fear of consequence.

Am I really being abused?

Often someone victimised by abuse is not even aware of what they are enduring, even if it is pointed out to them by caring others.

Denial is often the biggest form of defence, until it simply cannot be ignored any more.

What forms of abuse exist?

Any form of unwanted manipulation is abuse.

This can be domestic abuse, such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, or emotional abuse, or it could be workplace abuse, which is another form of narcissitc abuse where coersion is used to unethically force someones actions.

Can I escape?

Like many first steps, escape may not be easy, but does not compare to a potential lifelong existence of abuse.

What do you do?

We help provide assistance for people to free themselves from the clutches of narcissistic control, with awareness of how to minimise the damage caused by breaking free.
